The I kept seeing these beautiful treasures labled painted furniture on Pinterest. The light bulb went off in my head and I knew what I had to do to that boring dresser!! I knew I wanted to paint an image on the dresser. I would have loved to paint flowers and swirlies but 8 year old boys don't care for that kind of stuff. I decided on a slanted star.
The first thing I did was sand the whole dresser, drawers and knobs. Just a quick light sand with a medium sandpaper 'sponge'.
Then I tried to free hand the star with a pencil onto the dresser. That was not working out, one point was biggger than the next and then the last one was too small, it was a sorry looking star. After thinking a while, I decided to use painters tape to create my star. It was easy to make a straight line, easy to see, and easy to move around. I used the painters tape to trace the outline of the star over the entire dresser.
Don't they look cool just like that! If you look carefully at the points though, you can see why I didn't paint with the painter's tape on. I had to make points. I removed the tape and drew the points free hand.
I used a small roller and sponge brush to paint. I used two coats of high gloss paint. The first in blue and then in white.
The final results:
